Camus actually defines the human condition as absurd. The main difference between absurdity and existentialism is that in absurdity even if you give —not society or religion— a meaning to life and living it passionately and sincerely, or authentically, still it's an absurd life. We are simply living a life like Sisyphus's life: He would have to push a rock up a mountain; upon reaching the top, the rock would roll down again, leaving Sisyphus to start over. Camus sees Sisyphus as the absurd hero who lives life to the fullest, hates death, and is condemned to a meaningless task.

I read Camus's The Stranger when I was a teenager and a few times looked back on it, but this discussion convinces me that that book shaped me a ton more than I ever credited it for. My don't-give-a-fuck attitude is more, and less, profound than I realized.

I heard this on the interwebs Sisyphus is like a good drive-time DJ: He's bringing you that same great classic rock night after night.

Lex, we need more content on Albert Camus. There is great biographical film on him from 2009, he was really an example of what people should try to be like.

Absurdism is easily one of the better answers to life philosophy has given us in my opinion.

What is the cause of this universe? I'm not sure, but I think that the cause of the universe is the universe itself, or the universe has been caused by another. If you look at it that way, the universe is the cause of the universe, and it is the universe that is caused by itself. This is why God is omnipotent, because he is everything. And if he is everything, he has no limits. God is the cause of all things. And he is the cause of the universe, which means that he is the cause of himself, which means that he is the cause of the universe, which means that he is the cause of himself. He is the cause of all things, and the universe is a part of him.

Camus was not an atheist. He understood if there is no God life is ultimately meaningless. He struggled with that. You must be honest enough to logically follow your thoughts to see where they will lead you.

I don't like the dessert analogy. If I know what will be for dessert, and don't like it, then I will fill myself on the entree. Otherwise, I will save room for something sweet at the end. =P

What's for desert offensiveness.... I am sure this is very inspirational to that little kid's parents who died on the beach face down in the sand
