Cool video. You bring up some great points. Speaking as someone who was 0-10 during that decade, and is a synthwave fan, I would point out that I think a huge influence on synthwave is a lot of the music from advertising (jingles, background music in commercials, etc.), incidental, theme song, and background music on TV shows (Miami Vice, Knight Rider, Airwolf, 80's Doctor Who, etc.), phone "hold" music, mall "muzak", and TV station ID music. Synths were basically everywhere in the 80s. If you really wanted to dig deep, I'd say look into some of those. I feel like New Wave/Pop is really just the tip of the iceberg for examples of how/where people were making synth music in the 80s that influenced synthwave today.

Synthwave really came from the one-off songs that at the time people like we were mad were not much more prominent. Axel F, Crockett's Theme, even the Knight Rider theme, these were basically audio memes of the era that you could not escape but that were sadly not nearly as prevalent as pure synth jams are (fortunately) now

I loved the eighties. I am glad I got to be a kid during that time. You know what is weird about synthwave that I discovered? I noticed that when I put it on when I'm working it gives me this kind of boost to perform my tasks and duties. It's strange because even if I don't feel like doing something or hate doing something it gives me this focus and clarity. It's hard for me to describe, but I think that is why I am so addicted to it.

Uh, nobody even thought it was actually a thing in the 80s. Who said that? Yes, We do associate it with the 80s because it's the best sounding synths sounds of the 80s made into synth music pieces. but no one thought it was a thing in the actual 80s! lol the premise of this video is pretty strange to me - but hey... what do i know?

Synthwave is 80's inspired synth music, nobody claimed it existed in the 80's. There was of course plenty of synth music, it just wasn't called synthwave. Rick Astley was the shit, I always found the rickroll thing really odd. Oh no, somebody surprised me with some sweet tunes from the good ol days, the horror!

It's like when people think the music from their era was the best but it’s probably just because they forgot about the bad ones over time 🙂 3:13

Great video, synthwave is probably my favourite genre at the moment. It never really makes me think of 80s pop (though I absolutely love a lot of that, too), it always makes me think more of the movies and movie soundtracks of the era
