I actually work at a hot topic now, it’s definitely changed lol. They mostly play kpop and Olivia rodrigo in my store and the alternative section is very small and kind of shoved in the back corner. I hope as more alternative fashion and music starts trending again we will see less anime in the store and more music ‼️‼️

being into the emo/scene style and culture as a teen in this generation kinda sucks because hot topic isnt what it used to be. granted, they still do have some pretty rad stuff, but i wish they would bring back all the stuff i always wanted, like magazines !!! i cannot express enough how badly i want some band magazines, i wish things were still that way but i hope hot topic does make a comeback because johnnies right, theres a new wave of younger people who are genuinely into 2000s scemo culture, or even for the people who just like it for the trend, either way hot topic would make a lot of money from it and we'd all be happy with it ! although i do understand the hustle for pop culture stuff, i feel like we should just leave that to fye or some other store haha. give us back our emo store !!!

I feel like Hot Topic fell off again and again but I remember going in Hot Topic and buying an All Time Low hoodie and remembering how emo and alternative it was. Now that I’m in college I still shop there but not as much and it’s not that emo or alternative as it was back then in middle school.
I do miss their old meet n greets in stores and live shows as well.

I remember wishing I could go to Hot Topic during its emo/alternative days. I grew up in the Middle East and had practically no access to anything alternative. I had to DIY a lot of my clothes and jewellery and I would literally sit and wish I could go to Hot Topic like everyone I was seeing on social media. I’m an adult now and started getting into goth subcultures when I was about 16 or so, I still wish I could have gotten that experience that American emos/alts got to experience with places like Hot Topic.

As someone who is realizing what they want their style to be, Hot Topic is somewhere where I want to go. Thank you Johnnie for making me more confident within knowing what my style is.
