How to Talk about RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS to Kids (For Teachers & Parents ) ❤️✏️
FREE GUIDE 👉 tribaltradeco.com/pages/residential-schools
This is not a very easy breezy light topic to talk about, so how do we know what is age appropriate to teach young kids about these very dark parts of history? How do we introduce these heavy topics to youth so that they are knowledgeable about what is going on in the world around them? You already know how crucial education is for shaping a young person's life in so many different ways. That is why the job as an educator or parent is enormously important in making a difference and making significant progress towards truth & reconciliation with indigenous people and communities in Canada.

Thank you so much for this video!!!!! As a Native from the Salt River Pima Tribe in Scottsdale, AZ. I was watching the videos about the residential schools in Canada and about how many children have gone missing. The video was explaining how the children became part of the residential school system and the governments role in this so called "education system" or as we called it, "washing away the Indian in all of us". They humiliatedus by cutting our hair, punished us harshly for speaking in our Native Language, the nuns and priests called us names, they tried to beat the Indian out of us, the Nuns and Priests took our innocence then buried us in the back of the "Holy" church to name a few. The frustrating part about the comments regarding the video was how many people made harsh comments about the parents and why they let their kids go to the schools. The parents didn't just send their children off by their choice! The Government came to the reserves and TOOK THEM AWAY FROM ALL THE PARENTS BY THREAT! GO TO JAIL OR WE TAKE YOUR KIDS. INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DID NOT WANT TO BE IN THE JAILS DUE TO THE HARSH TREATMENT THEY RECIEVED. SO, WITH FEAR THEY LET THEIR KIDS GO, ONLY TO NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN. It's so difficult telling non Natives the stories of the Government schools. They don't want to hear it. The next video should be how to tell adults our history. That's the really challenge! Again thank you so much for your work.

Thank you for this. The children need the truth

Your concern, compassion and desire to teach the truth yet protect the younger children is very moving and reassuring. At a time when in the US our school systems are going off the rails and teaching children subjects that are not age appropriate and disrespecting the role parents play in their children's education, your video is a breath of fresh air.

Here where I live, we learn the bare minimum of the history of Sámi kids who were sent to residential schools. I think there's still a lot more to learn for both adults and children.

Hey, this is amazing, but I'd also like to learn about this kind of history in the US. Any recommendations?

Hi Mallory! Thanks so much for all the info! As a settler and educator, is it appropriate for me to be the person introducing and engaging with Indigenous crafts, music, etc. or best to bring in someone from the Indigenous community?
