Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said Dr Dan Poulter, the MP who quit the Tory Party in anger over the NHS crisis, probably speaks for many disillusioned Conservative voters.

Sir Keir welcomed Dr Poulter to the Labour Party during a visit to the Francis Crick Institute in London as he announced a mental health reform plan.

ā€œWe have a mission on health, which includes mental health, and Iā€™m really pleased that Dan Poulter has now joined us and will support that work.

ā€œIn leaving the Conservatives and coming to Labour, Dan has said that thatā€™s driven by his sense of wanting to support and ensure the future of the NHS and only Labour is going to do that.ā€

ā€œHe probably speaks for very many Tory voters who equally think that their party has drifted away from what it once was and I say to them, as I said to Dan, you are very welcome to join us.ā€

Dr John Puntis joins Ian Collins to discuss.

I am a doctor in a&e and sitting home for 2 weeks as there is no shifts available in London . According to my rotation teams at 5 hospitals including Bartā€™s trust say that there are no shifts available and my colleagues say they were only 4 doctors in the night to see 200 in the whole department. Why??? As the funding for doctors and nurses has been cut ā€¦. And they want to hire ā€”- diversity manager, well being manager and what all nonsense managers . The nhs bosses are extremely high paid and get bonuses for not hiring doctors and nurses who are supposed to do all the work from seeing pts, doing bloods push pts to scans and hire all other non medical staff and waste hard earned tax payers money. Then tories have the nerve to blame us doctors and nurses for not working hard enough and Labour who was 15 years ago in power for causing the mess . What a nonsense.

The NHS is the 7th largest employer in the WORLD, and has more staff than any other healthcare organisation in the world 1.5 million staff to be exact, to say it needs more staff is ridiculous. Out of 19 comparable countries the NHS is ranked 10th for funding whatever the NHS has it will NEVER be enough, what more does it bloody want?

How much of the funds go into the NHS over the amount of money the service, medical, security, management etc of the NHS. Contractors receiving these NHS contracts are making millions

it's a major concern because the money it swallows is staggering, and the service terrible, over 50% of the countries GDP goes into the Blackhole that is the NHS, anyone who defends this mass waste of taxpayers money for nothing is not an honest actor

Public ownership of the NHS is essential. There is a long line of pharmaculical, medical device and medical equipment supplies taking a profit. We don't need another taking our money. The NHS would benefit from some sensible discussion and calm decision making. And if you want my suggestion - charge for none urgent work šŸ˜®

my experiences with the healthcare system, particularly the NHS, have left me with significant doubts. Despite being a cornerstone of our society, the NHS has faltered in providing the level of care and service that citizens deserve. Comparatively, I've encountered better treatment abroad (South Africa), which raises questions about the effectiveness and efficiency of our healthcare system.

They may have more staff than the rest of the world but 11 Doctors, over 5 years, were unable to diagnose several broken veins and some non-functioning valves, in my swollen leg. Now, years on, turning black. 5 thought it was all DVT from flying, 2 imagined it was down to blood-pressure medication. 4 were convinced it was "an infection." Some thought it a damaged bone or arterial blockage. Only my wife insisted on a doplar scan, that clearly showed the damaged valves, with a bit of equipment costing maybe Ā£7,000 tops, taking just ten minutes. This week I rang to hear that my case (and simple repair work) has been put down as "non-urgent. 20 weeks or much longer".
