Los músicos granadinos Manuel Hidalgo Sierra (El Indio) y Luis Abril Martín (El Nitro) se conocen desde siempre, pero no fue hasta la secundaria cuando se juntaron por primera vez para hacer versiones de canciones de sus músicos favoritos –Camarón, Los Chichos, Manzanita, Pata Negra. "Siempre éramos los dos que estábamos hablando de música y fantaseando con tener una banda”, dice Manuel a El Periódico de España. El sueño se materializó bastante rápido y de ahí nació La Plazuela quienes, con su mezcla de flamenco, neo funk, pop, sintetizadores y música electrónica, se han convertido en referentes de la nueva escena musical en Granada. El dúo lanzó su primer EP ‘Yunque, Clavos y Arcayatas’ en el 2019 a un público más que receptivo al son de La Plazuela. Tanto fue el éxito que los llevó a trabajar con los productores Antonio Narváez de Dellafuente y Lorenzo Cavanillas de Califato ¾ para el EP ‘Jamila’ y a lanzar su primer álbum ‘RONEO FUNK CLUB’. Sin pena, La Plazuela no titubea en decir que su música es así por sus influencias, sus vivencias y su amor eterno por los recovecos, las plazas frías y el calor inigualable de Granada. “Muchas veces en nuestra música usamos referencias y nos parece que hablar de ello es importante, por defenderlo y rendirle homenaje", explica Luis al diario El Mundo. La Plazuela tomó el control del escenario DSCVR para cantar “La Primera Helá” y “El Lao de la Pena” en vivo desde el estudio de Vevo en Londres.

In high school, they formed a cover band, playing music from their favorite musicians – Camarón, Los Chichos, Manzanita, Pata Negra, to name a few. “We were always the two kids talking about music and fantasizing about starting a band,” Manuel says. That dream materialized rather quickly when La Plazuela was born. These days, the band has become a torchbearer for the new Granada music scene with an eclectic fusion of flamenco, neo funk, pop, synths and EDM. The duo released its first EP ‘Yunque, Clavos y Arcayatas’ in 2019 to an audience hungry for La Plazuela’s unique sound. Success was swift and paved the way for the artists to work with renowned producers Antonio Narváez from Dellafuente and Lorenzo Cavanillas from Califato ¾ on the next EP, ‘Jamila.’ Now, with their first album, ‘RONEO FUNK CLUB’, La Plazuela doesn’t hesitate to show listeners that their music is a collective cultural effort, one that showcases their eternal love for the alleyways, plazas and human warmth of Granada. “We defend it and we honor it,” Luis said about their the impetus behind their new tracks, which include “La Primera Helá” and “El Lao de la Pena.” Time to go to Andalusia.
