YES!!! I still remember your old coverage of Mari, and I must say that the architecture and water-infrastructure of the city is really a wonder to behold. It had a beautiful garden as well. Ironically a lot of our image of Babylon is that of Nebuchadnezzar's Neo-Babylon and Ishtar Gates. But even as far as the ancient time of Hammarabi, Mari in a way was already a gorgeous gardened city.

Man, every time I see the letters of Shamshi-Adad to his son i feel bad for the guy. He might have been useless, but being seen that way by people thousands of years in the future... It hurts 😢 Thank you so much for another great video, Cy!

No matter how much I thought I knew, you always teach me more, filling in the details to form a more complete, contextualized picture of the ancient world.

I'm glad to learn about the history of a city that shared my first name. I've always seen it on ancient maps but I've never heard much about it before. thank you!

Amazing! I was wondering when you'd cover Mari; it is one of my favourite ancient cities! I love the layout, and it's extensive history as a trading hub. As always, you deliver great coverage of an amazing topic in ancient history!

I've been rather partial to Mari since I was a teenager (admittedly, that was in the early Bronze Age). Something attracted me to the civilizations that always seemed to get second-banana status in the popular books: Elam, Mitanni, Urartu, the Luwians, and others. Perhaps it's because I'm Canadian --- we know what it's like to have people forget you exist because the Big Shots are grabbing all the attention. I'm pleased to see from the comments that there other Mari fans.

CY, I really enjoyed this one. (I enjoy all of them lol ) I'm impressed how you take the time to learn the proper names of the people and lands you discuss. I find it very respectful of the past.

There are very many antiquities that have not yet been discovered. This archaeological area is very close to my village in Syria. There are antiquities buried in many hills in my village that have not been excavated.
