It’s officially been one year since the release of my debut album, “While You’ve Been Gone;” a memoir-like album that reflects on the different chapters I went through after the sudden passing of my brother. In this series, Jorim Motley—my head producer—and I reflect back on the months we spent creating the album and how it resonates with us now an entire year later. We discussed how certain songs came to be—whether it be a 10 second voice memo from my phone, or a 3 minute demo of a song ready to be recorded—and the different inspirations, lyrically and sonically that symbolized the realities I was facing during that time in my life.
