I haven't seen either movie yet, but from what I read, I agree that Dwayne Johnson should have allowed himself to become part of the Shazam franchise rather than trying to separate his character from another who's had a long shared history with him.
Nevertheless, they did reference Black Adam in the first Shazam, right before the wizard Shazam gave Billy his powers.

I get the joke about “how does Billy not know about Black Adam”, but at the same time I can relate uncomfortably well with not knowing things that I probably should simply because no one told me.

Correction: Shazam actually did mention Black Adam, in the first movie when he told him the history, he mentioned that they chose recklessly by giving the powers of Shazam to Teth-Adam. That is literally the only connection with the two characters in all three movies.

The Wizard did tell Billy about his fallen Champion, in the first movie, but no one bothered to inform Billy that the guy had come back. What I have to assume is that Freddy, of course, heard all about the superhero in Kahndaq and almost definitely geeked out about it, but he got tuned out.
