I’ll also note that “Eevee” (Evie) is also a good nickname for Evelyn 🙂 at the very least that’s what we call my niece (hilariously, my sister’s favorite Pokémon is indeed Eevee. She didn’t see the correlation until I pointed it out when she was 8 months pregnant, while asking if she wanted me to get Evie an Eevee plush now or wait until she was old enough to understand the nuance lol

I feel like something important to remember is that meme review isn't as rewatchable as most things. It's very topical, there's clear trends, and it makes the most sense to watch when it comes out, while the JMC or analysis videos can be rewatched at any time.

Kazuki Takahashi (YuGiOh's creator) was a massive fan of tabletop games his whole life, and centered the manga around it, with games being of various scopes (Ranging from only needing a few dice and a token, or needing an elaborate set up). The card games in the manga were a direct reference to Magic The Gathering (Which is why the early card designs were more mythical and demonic, with the sole exceptions being Machines).
There's a possibility Pokemon may have had some influence on him, but YuGiOh also had arcs featuring the likes of Tamagotchi and Dungeons and Dragons, so it's really unlikely that YuGiOh owes it's existence to Pokemon.
