Didnt know there was a big interest in metering from the public . I work as a meter engineer and its pretty cool that people talk about this stuff

Our bills went up almost immediately after we had our meter changed from the mechanical dial type. I was convinced that the meters must be recording the current peaks which occur during the first few ms of an appliance being turned on, which were previously damped by the mechanical style meter due to the inertia of the disc. So I contacted Honeywell who manufactured the meters at the time and they confirmed that the meters do record the initial peaks which can cumulatively add more to your bill. Fortunately they have software "damping", but the amount recorded is adjustable by the network/installer (via software and infra-red comms interface). So I guess if all refrigerators and pumps etc incorporated a "soft start" it might help?

In 3 Phase Digital meter, if we have 1 phase directly from pole but neutral is via meter. Will this neutral able to capture load??? Neutral can understand the load or consume units? Pls reply

It takes one to know one and you know exactly what is going on. Fantastic information. Thank you for the content!

Explain to me why pence goes missing all the time. The meter tells me it requires 17 pound to restore the power but when I put 17 on it then asked for another coupe of pound

Your video must be really good, youtube hates it.

Shame they have instant information on when your refrigerator goes on and off....
Perhaps some kind of bunching could be done that gathers load only per hour then send that so anything turning on and off is obscured?

How well do smart meters work if you have an isolation transformer between the meter and your panel?

the original smart meters had a zigbee chip installed to monitor appliance usage. appliance companies couldn't agree on a language to use, so they stopped installing the chips in them. most power companies won't use the newer meters that scan the load variants because of the cost and the simple fact that it does them no good knowing what appliance is on. only your total usage and, if you're a heavy or industrial place, the overall demand / power factor of your building. those directly affect the grid and bottom line. The Zigbee was for the end user only, so the customer would be able to easier diagnose failing appliances.
You are correct in your assumption about the sporadic communications, the packets are small that are sent to the hub, but bandwidth is still bandwidth. Most residential meters communicate once every hour, commercial once every 15 minutes.

Anyone know how to disable the motor that moves the arms inside the FOCUS RXRe-SD? Does it have a motor and arms inside? For research purposes I want to disable the ability to turn power on/off remotely

There are some power companies that allow you to use your own meter and more commonly for back feeding and something like sharing power you might have your own meter to know how much is being used so you can charge them for their portion

Hi. Nice to meet you and the rest who stops by. Since yesterday im looking in to the smart meters. This is is quite a nice topic and you are quite alone in this topic.... I`m glad your here and hopefully i will learn few thinks. BTW im not eally in to the revers engineering. Not that I don`t like it. But I`m not that smart... Do you have anymore videos or tutorials about how to connect to this smart meters?

The Faraday cage is like a tin box deflecting all emf. So, my question is why use it when disconnecting the smart electronics?

I have single phase as i live in a residential area. However i purchased an old lathe that requires 3 phase 208v. Do ya think they know i have that? And how do u figure that?

Yep just saw a new little "box" stuck onto the side of my apartment building 2 days ago... Says SENSUS on front... I open the cover which was only held in place by 2 plastic tabs. Inside it says SENSUS, Raleigh NC and all sorts of FCC wording and megahertz and all that stuff.... Scary stuff to understand exactly what they have in store for all of us
Yet nobody seems to give a hoot!
