it's hard to believe that this record was made from thousands of vinyl record samples that you buy from a junk shop

The fact that we got to see The Avalanches make the ending song to the best album of all time is seriously amazing.

Such an amazing album. It absolutely blew my mind back in 2000, and is still one of my favourite of all time. 17 years of rumours they were releasing a second album and when eventually Wildflower came out I can't believe how good that second album was. Very rarely 2nd albums live up to the hype, especially with the huge wait, but it was way better than I ever could have expected.

3:39 pretty incredible that this moment of sample finding was caught on video.

It was unreal that this was even before Since I Left You immortalized them as legends

These guys inspired me to venture into the world of synths and samplers from traditional instruments. 🍻

This is hands down one of the best gems I've ever found on youtube. Thanks so much. So interesting to see what sampling was like back then and we couldn't have a more perfect example. As I side note I was born in Melbourne in the nineties and seeing those green / silver trains gave me mad flashbacks to my childhood.

That extra element to the track at the 11:00 mark is so amazing! I so hope that we hear this in a new, more finished mix (as intended with more cleared samples) of the original album at some point.

I sometimes wonder if artists get upset they were sampled, or get happy they were sampled by the Avalanches.

So much craft went into this back in the day, must of been so labouring. Having that many members all working together in the same direction collecting and finding records, putting it through those crappy computers, getting the samples cleared, mixing, releasing and performing all the material. It’s a bit depressing to think all you need is a laptop now.

It’s absolutely CRIMINAL the extra samples were removed in Extra Kings. I keep rewinding the clip β€” so beautiful. SHAME.

I love that bit at 10:51 when the flute comes in and Steve gives a big smile. Wonderful music.
