I think that she's doing them a favor. Having Herpes on top of the T-Virus, plus living in a sewer?!? Add the fact that there's nothing to eat down there after the rats become zombies, putting them out of their misery is a kindness.

The RE3 Remake’s version of the Hunter Gamma weirdly creates a lot of mixed feelings for me. On one hand, I think it is a very gruesome and well-designed creature, by its own merits. I could easily see this working as an original monster, in games like the first RE Revelations. This redesign also gives the Hunter Gammas a more distinct niche from the Hunter Betas, whereas the original’s Gammas were basically just re-skinned Betas with a different killing animation. However, the fact that RE3 was already supposed to have the Gravedigger makes this Gamma’s attack methods look like a mere discounted version. I think they should have just kept in the Gravedigger as a secondary boss creature, which attacks in the same manner, has a lot more health, and also burrows into the earth. But the new Gamma’s skin texture, sound effects, larger size, disfigured smiley face, visible teeth, dorsal spines, etc. are still features which could have worked on the original Gamma. So a redesign of the Gamma could have instead just taken those traits, added two huge claws arms, and gave the monster similar attacks as the shark giants in “Bloodborne”.
