We got to ride the #1 trail in the U.S. : ) Pulling from my past experiences this was arguably going to shake up my top 3 rides to date. We took a shuttle to the bottom of Burro Pass and proceeded to climb the last 1k feet at a steep incline in the thin air. It wasn't easy but we all knew the mission we were on. Making it to the top we regrouped and started down the 8k foot descent that would take us through multiple ecosystems and terrains. It's well known it's steep at the beginning and I can confirm that to be true. Nothing like bombing through an old age forest on a cool morning. Hesitant to trust the loose rock but I gathered confidence, letting the bike do the work. Crossing over creeks and through enormous aspens led us to mellow flow in the prairie. The flow segment was one of the best I have ever rode. You can view mountain foliage, and red rock formations in the distance. It's one of those moments when you need to just be present and enjoy. This brought us to Porcupine Rim trail where the well known ledge riding occurs. The mixture of dirt and slick rock presented a fun factor like no other. Having lunch here was ideal. For the next segment, we encountered very technical Jeep roads. Given it was a wide open we had the chance to really let speed get us through rugged rocky terrain. Having the "smash into everything" mindset allows you to get a real understanding of what your bike is capable of doing. Lastly, the remaining singletrack segment provided views you see in a calendar. It opened up around a bend allowing you to overlook the canyon and the green water of the Colorado River. Evening sun was shining on us while we went mach chicken through the relentless boulder sections. The descents of both the start and the finish will be forever memorable to me. So what's the verdict? I can say it is undoubtedly the best trail I have rode to date, knocking Green's Creek down a notch. Why you may ask? Because the trail embodied a handful of great trails. Downieville, South Boundary, Kokopelli, and Green's Creek. It had all the elements in one, making it hard to argue otherwise. We all became better riders this day. All the magazines articles were right. Grateful to share this experience with these fellas and to knock this trail off the "must ride" list after 10 years of riding! 🌯🏔️🌳🪨🍁🌵
