Once upon a time, a private bus company called New York Bus Service operated several express bus routes from the Northeast Bronx to Manhattan, including the BxM6, BxM7 (
• MTA 2021 Prevost X3-45 BxM7 Express b... ), BxM7A (now known as the BxM8), BxM7B, BxM9, and BxM10. Long story short, New York Bus Service, and other private bus companies in NYC, had financial problems. In 2005, New York Bus Service was taken over by the MTA.
The BxM7B express bus ran from the Flatiron District (just south of Midtown Manhattan) to City Island. In 2010, the MTA was facing a budget deficit. They proposed eliminating the BxM7B. City Island residents fought tooth and nail to save the route. The MTA eventually reached a compromise with the residents. The BxM7B was eliminated and replaced with four extended BxM8 runs (two Manhattan-bound during the AM rush hour, two City Island-bound in the PM rush hour). Making extra stops sucks, but at least the route still exists.
In this clip, a City Island-bound BxM8 is operating from the RFK Triboro Bridge to City Island. I eliminated portions of the video where the bus was stuck in traffic or meandered through local streets.
