December 22, 2017 was the day my older brother passed away. He loved this kind of music; the type that just makes you want to sing, dance, and feel alive. We played this song at his "celebration of life" when we released the balloons signifying the release of his spirit. This beautiful song will forever and always remind me of my brother and all the great times we had together. Thanks so much for sharing and unknowingly being a large part of my family's life.

Lyrics :
After we're gone
Who will breathe the earth we lost
We leave nothing but our thoughts
And memories beneath the dust
So when this body fails to mend
And all my demons they come crashing in
Will I start to begin
Or will I fade away with them
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife
So when this body fails to mend
And all the demons they come crashing in
Will we start to begin
Or will we fade away with them
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
And in the afterlife, tell me we'll be fine
In the afterlife

I remember when Illenium was a lesser known name, when I'd only discovered his music on this channel, and wasn't seeing his name much anywhere else.
A few years ago I remember reading his name in a few headlines, but I didn't think too much of it.
Then I saw him live for the first time at a music festival I went to. Back then, to me, he was just another name that I recognized, and thought "hey, I saw this guy on youtube a few times." But then, holy shit, he was so good, it was unbelievable. Definitely one of the best sets I'd heard that night. Really caught me by surprise.
Last weekend I went and saw two of his concerts two nights in a row in the same city, and he's only gotten better. Our dude made it big! Love him and his music.

A little over a year ago, this song I believe helped save my life. I was driving down the interstate when a big rig kick up a piece of rebar that flew through my windshield and embedded itself into my abdomen. I immediately pulled off the road. After being stopped a moment, I thought to put on this song to help me come to terms. After the beat dropped, I decided to turn on my hazards and floored it to the hospital blaring this song. There were a few other songs in my play list after this one that kept the energy going, but it was this one that got it going. I sustained major internal damage, and probably would have died if I called and waited for an ambulance. I didn't stop thinking about my family the entire time I was looking through my spider webbed windshield, and didn't think twice about using the shoulder as a passing lane when needed. I also blew through a red light, which attracted a cop, who helped me into the hospital that was literally just passed that light on the right. I can still see the horror in his face, and everyone who was in the waiting room that day before collapsing to the floor.

In my opinion, this is Illenium's greatest song. It might not be his best, most popular or the most critically appraised one, but Afterlife is certaintly his greatest.
Blending together every part of the song; the melodical and powerful yet ethereal music, the amazing voice of ECHOS who strengthens the notion and subject on which this song touches heavily upon (death and a future far far away) with a mix of curiousity, fear and hope all in one, and the magical and heart-touching lyrics to which only a few parts are actually only the exploration of the said themes but also that everything (as repeated many many beautiful times througout the song) will be fine in the end.
I have a beautiful and wonderful wife by my side, and although we don't really believe in a god, which limits the greatness that is Life and Death and the embarking journey that we all must travel and experience...I do like to comfort myself that when it is our turn to die and enter a Afterlife (hopefully just as beautiful and wonderful as Illenium makes it out to be through this song), I see us becoming two small butterflies of light, embarking on a journey and dancing around each other through space and time, and beyond.
Gandalf said that when we die..."The journey doesn't end here... Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass"
And I believe that is a great parallel to this song. That this world isn't going to fade into black and we experience nothing, but that we'll embark on an even greater, a "greater-than-life" journey.
Alan Watts sums it up perfectly!
"Try to imagine what it will be like falling asleep and never wake up... Now try imagine what it was like waking up having never gone to sleep! That was when you were born..."
Thank you, Illenium. For an amazing song, perhaps a sneak peak into something greater.
And thank you, Femmie, for being my soulmate <3
