"fast food era of music" is such a perfect way to describe it.

I think another reason why we donā€™t idolize these pop artists as much today is just because times have changed. We have the world at our fingertips our attention spans have gotten shorter, there are constantly new shiny things to rave about, weā€™re not forced to consume what comes up on our tv. Things will never be the same as it was in the 2010s

TikTok is probably what went wrong with pop

I feel like we lost a lot of the lore when social media dawned. Once we got to see more and more of our favorite celebrities and pop stars they became less of a fantasy. I feel that is why Beyonce is someone who people stick around for, she still gives us everything and she does not really have a social media presence. She maintained that lore and people cannot predict what she will give us next.

You forgot to mention a pretty big factor: nostalgia-bait, EVERYONE is using nostalgia and samples (that are sooo unnecessary) to sell, i read a tweet that said it's sad the newer generations are gonna grow without characteristic traits cause all they do is emulate and reference things that have been done before and it's so true šŸ˜• we need someone that's not afraid to try to create new unseen things beyond ā€œsex sellsā€ and religious mockery for shock value

Britney Spears and Michael Jackson are the two names that always enter my mind when I think of pop music, because them two were literally the definition of pop and two of the greatest of all time

I feel like the pop era now is definitely kpop. It took a while for kpop to be popularized in countries like america, and now that they've gained so much traction worldwide, kpop's gonna stay relevant for a very long time

im definitely extremely biased, but i think olivia is definitely a contender for a big popstar, and i think the guts tour has made that much more obvious. she's really grown so much since sour, both in confidence and sound, and with the way she's unafraid to explore different genres and expand upon her own musicality (along with her overwhelming standing in the industry already), i really hope to see her grow to the levels we're so used to from the 2000s and 2010s.

Lana del Rey isnā€˜t exactly a popstar but her album Born To Die changed pop music. Her sound was so different and had a major influence on the genre. Sheā€˜s also still super popular despite her sound not catering to whatā€˜s currently trendy.

Sabrina Carpenter is definitely stardom material. Her voice, her songwriting, her personality, her style, HER MUSIC! Everything about her is Popstar worthy. Iā€™ve known her since her Disney debut, Iā€™ve listen to all her albums, and Iā€™m so glad that people are finally recognizing her talent.

Not to discredit her talent, iā€™m a huge swiftie, but i think the fact that the industry has changed so that new pop stars arenā€™t rising is the reason Taylor Swift keeps growing and is still here. Sheā€™s the only ā€˜ā€™ogā€™ā€™ pop star who never stopped, she outlived them all, so now sheā€™s pretty much got the pop star monopoly until she decides to let it go

I definitely think Sabrina is on the rise, and I think she's here to stay. She has a lot of qualities that people really enjoy, she has a relatable energy to her. She really does everything her own way. She combats controversy with confidence and she's so self-assured. I like that, in regards to her music, she's able to hit a couple different key components, she does the upbeat and catchy thing really really well, but also, on her emails I can't send album, the songwriting was the best I've ever seen from her. And let's just be real, she has the look... like come on... She's gorgeous... and she has successfully (in my opinion) hit her own niche style that suits her and separates her from the masses well. The chunky boots, heart dresses and mini skirts, she's got her own vibe in the making. Like, someone could dress up as her for Halloween and you'd definitely know who they were dressed as. But yeah, I totally adore her if that wasn't obvious LOL

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Ariana Grande are some of the last pop giants really doing pop like no one. It's sad that it's fading away....šŸ˜¢

I really feel like Dua Lipa has so much potential to become a true pop icon when we look back at the music of today. She's already had numerous huge hits like Levitating, Don't Start Now, One Kiss, New Rules, Cold Heart, even Dance The Night from Barbie. Her latest album 'Future Nostalgia' was a perfect pop album with strong 80s synth influence while still being very modern and I think that combination of eras of pop was a big part of it's success. I also think she has that strong sense of 'image' (from how she previews her music (being very mysterious about Houdini) to fans and how she exists on social media) that big pop artists had in the 2000s and 2010s but is sort of lacking in artist's now (besides my girl Olivia Rodrigo she has purple locked in). Also no shade to the Olivia's and Tate's of pop but I do sorta believe Dua's age (not that she's old by any means but she's 28 compared to Olivia/Tate who are literally 20) might play a role in this as her voice + image has had more time to mature. I won't hide that I'm a Dula Peeper which might make me a liiiitle biased but I do believe she has so much more potential and talent to be shown even after already having numerous global hits

As an upcoming pop artist I think itā€™s really hard to break through the boundary of peopleā€™s attention spans BUT ALSO! Because these artists that blew up in the late 2000s and 2010s are still huge like Taylor Swift and BeyoncĆ© it makes it very hard to take the spotlight away from them, leaving little space for new artists to emerge. It is an exhausting cycle and it does make me sad tbh šŸ˜¢

i think a reason why t swift could regain such an extreme, extreme power (something you can't tell me she didn't) is because she is one of the only ones that actually still has the vibe of a popstar from the early 2010 (big tour, prominent boyfriend, lots of new and exciting music, long career) and she really feeds into that nostalgia that many people are experiencing (for example with her rerecordings)

ā€˜Future Nostalgiaā€™ by Dua Lipa indeed marked the most recent notable moment in pop. Its critical acclaim and commercial success showcase its huge impact.
