ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. For nearly 25 years the Coen Brothers were my favourite filmmakers. And I still love their work very much, but in the last five years maybe, certainly since The Grand Budapest Hotel, Wes Anderson has claimed top spot. His movies are thrilling, so beautiful they look almost edible, they're funny, poignant, thoroughly original and, most crucially I think, they are largely underpinned by the idea that, as intensely flawed as we are, a capacity exists still for kindness.
