👉 My full beginner bass course: yeah.bassbuzz.com/myths

Are you letting beginner bass myths hold back your playing? Let’s tackle some big ones and find out if they’re confirmed or busted…

Myth #1 - Bass is Boring… we just stand at the back, looking sullen, waiting for the show to end so we can pack up the lead guitarist’s gear while they talk to groupies, right?

You can probably guess what I think of this myth, since this is a bass channel… but check out how I demonstrated how important the bass is.

Myth #2 - Bass is Easier than Guitar… If you’re a bassist you might immediately say “hell no,” but it’s a little more complicated than you might think. I explain the differences, plus a live demo of why guitar players can get away with bad habits that bassists can’t.

Myth #3 - You Can’t Play with Small Hands… this is one of the most common myths about bass. I’ve had so many students worry that they won’t be able to play bass because their hands are small. We’ll see if we can find any pro bass players with small hands, plus I’ll talk about how to deal with it if your hands are length-challenged.

Myth #4 - Pick or Fingers? The age-old question. Can you play bass with a pick? Is pick better than fingers? We’ll look for answers by checking out a bunch of pro bass players and seeing what they do.

Myth #5 - It Takes a Long Time to Learn Bass… the great unspoken beginner bass myth. We’ll put it to the test and see what one of my former students has to say about it.

Okay, your head is clear of bass myths, and you’re ready to fill it with good stuff. Click here to subscribe for more beginner bass lessons: yeah.bassbuzz.com/subscribe

MYTH: Josh is s**ting on guitar players! TRUTH: Not all guitar players rush and overplay... but some of them do - I've done gigs with them! So my guitar impressions are a tribute to them, those million-fill-playing, tempo-accelerating scoundrels. 😈 In all seriousness - I love guitar, and I love good guitarists. (my best friend is a guitarist, no joke) My favorite guitar player lately (and often): Julian Lage. Check him out. And rock on, bassists and guitarists alike. 🤘

As a guitarist, I like to think of bass like eyebrows. You don’t realize how important it is until it’s gone.

Bass is essentially 'When you do things right, no one will be sure you've done anything at all.'

When I play right note, no one can notice my bass. But if I play wrong note, everyone notice that I've done wrong.

To all the people who say they can't hear bass: Bass frequencies go from 41 Hertz to 392 Hertz. If you can't hear the bass, it means you can't hear the 41-392 frequency range. Besides Bass Guitar, there are a lot more sounds that fit within this range (like vocals for example). You're pretty much missing half the song or more. Which means: 1- You have a hearing disability. 2- You have crappy speakers. A lot of people that say they can't hear the bass, can in fact hear it. They just don't know what it sounds like.

You don’t know how satisfying playing a bass is until you try it. Even if you were just playing the same notes over an over, the rhythmic feel is so good.

Removing the bass is like changing the frame rate of a piece of animation You can’t always actually hear (or see) it, but you always FEEL it. You can tell something is off
