I'm surprised you didn't mention one of the biggest Hollywood checkboxes in the show, which is how the mall in Episode 7 goes full 1980s and they're listening to 80s music in an 80s-style arcade. The apocalypse happed in 2003. No mall in 2003 would look like that, it would be more accurate to have Avril Lavigne posters and Pokemon cards. It's so obviously forced in to get that Stranger Things nostalgia so the show can have its staple 80s moment for no reason.

What I Hated the most about the last of us 2 was the revisionist history. They literally pretended like the Fireflies were always the good guys and that Marlene was so sure that Ellie's death would create a cure. That revision is history. It really damaged the whole series for me.
