For the /r/ sound, the tongue is pulled back with the tip relaxed/down. The sides of the tongue press against the insides of the back teeth. Be sure the tongue tip does NOT touch the roof of the mouth. If the tongue tip is raised, an /l/ sound will be produced.

The /w/ sound is made by rounding the lips and pushing them forward into a pucker (kissing) position. Many non-native speakers confuse the /w/ and /v/ sounds. To avoid making the /v/ sound, be sure that your lower lip does not touch the upper teeth
