Piper is a nonspeaking child with two rare genetic conditions. She has learned to communicate by humming songs that are relevant to her mood. For example, when Piper is joyful she hums, "If You're Happy and You Know It". Piper's family wants others to know that her form of communication is valid.

Thank you Chris for sharing a glimpse of our family with the people on your channel, and for the time and energy you put into each video. We found encouragement early on in Piper's diagnosis by watching your interviews, and being on the opposite side of things was a great opportunity. You are a talented guitar player, and Piper enjoyed her time with to you! You were kind, patient, and flexible. Which is just what most people need. Thank you to our friends, family, teachers, church, and medical team who have played roles in our daily lives. For supporting and encouraging us on our worst days. Thank you to the online community who has commented or engaged with the video. Your kind words, prayers, and advice have been well received and shared along to our children. Time is a valuable thing that you can't get back, and it was a blessing to share our story with you all. We pray it encourages you on hard days, in hard places. Thank you to our Lord Jesus for giving us a hope and a future. The Lord has been our firm foundation through the storms. We wouldn't be able to do an ounce of what we do without Him leading and guiding us every step of the way.

connecting music BPM to heart BPM to calm her is an EXTRAORDINARY idea. this shows the absolute love and connection that parents and guardians can have with children. understanding a child goes far beyond what we THINK is human interaction

She's definitely born with a natural talent for music. She not only perfectly keeps in time with the beat, but she also vocally changes keys along with the guitar. I'm glad her parents recognized this talent early and are using it in meaningful ways to connect with Piper. Her name, Piper, is totally fitting for someone who is musically inclined. Lol šŸ˜Š

I bet that little girl would do really well with some instruments. The Happiness I see in her eyes is what this world needs. Pure joy.

I really appreciate whenever your interviewees talk openly about hitting/hair pulling/other physical violence. It's an aspect of certain disabilities that's treated as pretty taboo, so I think it's valuable to discuss it on such a large platform.

Milliana is so grown up and verbal when it comes to Piper! What a sweetie!! Piper's humming is definitely communicative and as a special educator of infants and toddlers , music and singing is a big part of the learning process. You see the light in Piper despite her disabilities. You see the joy in the family too, and the fact that they foster special needs children is a blessing that that was given to them because of Piper. She definitely has a purpose in the world!! Life for her has its difficulties, but she is pursuing it despite them. Keep humming sweet girl!!

"We have to have the bad days for the good days" What a wise, kind, and empathic kid. The way Piper carefully watches Chris play is so amazing to see. This family is so lovely, a younger sister with an old soul and an older sister with a musical soul. Both such wonderful little girls.

The way she stared into the guitar as he played was an amazing moment. No words spoken, just vibes.

This takes me back 40yrs to when my daughter was just like this. She was non verbal but music would get her attention every time. When I wanted to talk to her I would sing it otherwise she would pay no attention. Now she can speak & interacts with people, but music is still important to her.

I canā€™t express enough how blown away I am with Miliana. The patience and compassion she has at her age I almost canā€™t wrap my head around. What a special person she is and sheā€™s really made my day. Wow. Thatā€™s some amazing parenting too.
