IIRC for running power cables for code, if it is behind a wall it needs to be romex, if its going through conduit it usually needs to be non jacketed, so like THHN/THWN wire.
That said you can do what you want, it should work as long as the amperage is not to high for the conductor size and distance, just note if their is a fire caused by it your insurance will probably not cover it, also if you sell the house you would want to remove it before inspection.
