Also known as Assault Suits Valken. The Nintendo Switch re-release, Assault Suits Valken Declassified, is also very good.

I didn't mention Metal Warriors because it's unrelated to the Assault Suit series, and that game will be getting it's own "Revisited" video as well

The Switch port is specifically the original Japanese version of the game newly translated into English, so it's got everything that Cybernator cut out – not to mention a ton of newly translated extras. Honestly worth the price for those alone.

My dad bought me a used Dell desktop PC with this game pre-installed. That was 30 years ago. I tried to find this for 3 decades and now I found it. Thank you SNESdrunk.

As a kid, I was utterly fascinated by the little people walking around and the sense of scale that this gives you. "Duuuude look how huge everything is!"
Never was able to play through the game tho

Cybernator dev team went on to set up a new studio and made Front Mission: Gun Hazard, hence the uncanny level of visual and gameplay similarity.
Also, the original composer of Cybernator, Masanao Akahori, started releasing his source version of the soundtrack of YouTube which is worth a mention.

I'm all for revisiting some of your older reviews like this. Not just because you can make a better video, but just yet as another reason to bring out these old gems for newer people to discover, or for older fans to revisit them as well.

2013? sheesh...10 years doesn't even seem that long ago..

it's on switch?! I must get this remaster. I always admired the sprite work in this game...absolutely beautiful

One thing control wise.

It's either L or R.

The other shoulder trigger button actually holds the position of your firing angle.

It becomes really handy in space or regular stages when you're focused on trying to dodge while maintain your direction of fire/shots

Nice update! One little correction though: At least as far as the Japanese version goes, once you unlock the Napalm Gun by shooting only the boss in the first level, you don't need to do anything else in order to keep it. There is a rumour that beating the second level the way you mentioned makes the Napalm Gun upgradable, but I've done that and it's not the case.

I had no idea they put this on the switch. I used to play this all the time as a kid. I paused the video and immediately downloaded it to my Switch. Thank you so much. Now back to finish watching another great SnesDrunk video

'93: The game premiers. '13: 20 years later, you do a review. '23: 30 years later, you revisit your review. I love how cyclical that all is. I'd really be down for more of these revisited reviews. Especially for games that are this good.

My favorite SNES game as a kid! I remember thinking that the story was so adult.

"Cybernator, Metal Warriors and Front Mission Gun Hazard. What action-packed mecha oriented SNES games state-of-art trio, man! I'm so happy they are finally coming back. Great video there, drunk!"

What I liked about this game was that the controls feels heavy, so you really feel like you're sitting in a giant robot or Mecha. For example if you slide, you can't cancel it and switch your direction instantly. So it takes some short of time to slide on till you can run on the opposite way. Insane good, but I also remember that the game was to hard for me being a kid 😅

Loved this as a kid, the level transitions were always a highlight. Entering earths atmosphere from space with the burning heat shield always did it for me. You just didnt get detail like that in games back then. Then getting on earth and seeing all yhe little people running around which showed the scale of the mech. :chefs kiss:

Holy crap, the Japanese ending blew my mind. That is hardcore for an SNES game.

Honestly, your original Cybernator video led me to play it, as well as Front Mission: Gun Hazard, and both have been fantastic classic gaming experiences for me over the past few years.
But, again, your two Shadowrun videos might have saved my mental health, as now I'm a practicing GM for the table-top game, and that entire world got me through quarantine and the subsequent years of re-building.
