Drive Through the Welsh Mountains with Me

This is a little different to my usual videos, let's call it "Slow TV".

I'm home in Wales for a short winter break, and I wanted to share just a little of my homeland with you all, so join me on a gentle drive up the Conwy Valley, through Betws y Coed and Llanrwst, up Dyffryn Mymbyr, down Nant Gwynant, and through the legendary and beautiful little village of Beddgelert. Almost all of this is in the ancient kingdom of Gwynedd or in the magnificent Eryri National Park (formerly known as Snowdonia as an official name, the National Park now no longer uses an English official name). We'll drive through a landscape that has hillforts, Roman fortresses, castles, oak forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls galore hidden in it.

It may not be a takedown of an inaccurate Viking Age TV show or an Arthurian film of questionable quality, but it is pretty!

So, I hope that if you're celebrating a holiday you have a good one, and that this little trip through the Welsh Highlands is a pleasant one for you!

PS. This video was set to come out whilst I'm away, so if you've joined the Patreon very recently and don't see your name, you will on the next video! :)

PPS. It's filmed by hand, I do not have a gimbal/tripod for my car, so forgive any shake!

I didn't want this to be over. Would absolutely love more content like this, a touch of educational with exceptionally calming vibes. It was like meditating.

In one drive, Wales just captured my heart. I got a glimpse of why you love it so. I’ve got to go see this.

That was beautiful. I love the stone walls. I grew up in Kentucky (USA) and we have lovely stone walls. The oldest ones were built by Irish and Scottish immigrants (maybe Welsh) and then later sadly by slaves. The state is now having many of them restored and markers put up to acknowledge the builders. Thanks to editing Jimmy for putting in the maps!

I’m down south caring for my parents, it’s been two years now since I’ve been able to set foot in the Welsh hills and watching this has tugged at my heart strings and had me shedding a tear or two for the beautiful countryside and the many breakfasts I’ve had in the Moel Siabod cafe. Thank you Jimmy.

Got completely lost and emersed in that video. Reminded me so much of many car trips back home in Scotland. 😊

Thank you, Jimmy, for that drive through the beautiful Welsh countryside! I would love to see the same route in spring, summer, and autumn!! I bet each season brings its own beauty to various places you've driven through! 🙂

The more I see of Wales, the more I understand why my ancestors chose to settle in the part of North America that they did. I've had many drives in my younger days that looked almost identical to this. Beautiful country to see and fun winding roads to drive.

Thank you! The scenery is stunning. As an American who spends 3-6 month a year in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, I appreciate someone else driving and sitting back and enjoying the scenery. Those narrow roads with an oncoming car scare the you-know-what out of me. I have hiked that area several times and prefer walking the trails over driving the roads any day. Happy New year to you!

That was absolutely a stunning view! As an American, it was painful because I kept wanting to shout get on the right side of the road before you get into an accident, and I had to keep reminding myself that this was not in America. This is absolutely a beautiful video! You did a fantastic job on it!

Sometimes, especially in these parts of Wales, I sometimes do wonder.... Aside from the types of cars you see on the road, I wonder how different (or rather how similar) the views would be in some of these places if we wound back the clock twenty, fifty, or even a hundred years ago. While Jimmy didn't pass through it, there's a town called Corris where I've seen side-by-side shots comparing parts of it today and a hundred years ago and they were virtually identical; from the buildings and you could even see the exact same trees in some shots!

That is a trip down memory lane! I I used to travel up and down the A5 multiple times every year for years! And even more when I lived in Holyhead. North Wales is just so gloriously beautiful - it's wonderful to do that trip with you, Jimmy, and I will definitely watch it again! I love North Wales!

I found myself shouting out the place names before the captions came up. Its been a few years since I've been on the big hills but seeing Moel Hebog as you drove through Beddgelert gave me an idea what to do summer 24! Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

What I love the most, is how very like my part of the US this looks. This was lovely. Thank you for sharing!

Absolutely gorgeous. I had the privilege of being a passenger on a trip to Snowdonia with my former roommate a few years back and recall being astounded at the beautiful landscape, despite feeling absolutely rotten with pneumonia at the time. Watching this was delightfully relaxing and a perfect start to a long weekend. Thanks so much for sharing it with us, Jimmy, and I hope this will become a series!

Sometimes I will look around myself in a dream and realize that I am in Wales. It has been 38 years since I was there. I guess love is just like that.
