Great video! There really isn't much detailed content about these amps even though they've been out for a little while. I just got one of these back in May and have done a lot of experimentation with the internal presets at home, though have not gigged with it yet. I'm running a Fender P 50's reissue through it with an 8 ohm Ashdown 4x10 (looking to get a 4 ohm to get more power). I run it with no pedals before the amp or within the fx loop. Some things I noticed - the factory presets all seemed to put the Leo or Jim preamps first in the chain, which I thought was weird since they seem to be more of an amp sim. So I built 5 presets where pedals like the compressor, B3K, AO, Eqs or whatever else come before the Leo/Jim, and then put an Amp EQ at the end which is assigned to 4 of the front knobs. This seems like a more natural way to operate it. The drawback is that I have to whittle some of these chains down a bit to make room for cabism before I bring this out live. To switch between all of the presets I bought a used Tech21 Midi Mongoose and a 7 pin midi cable (so the footswitch can run off of phantom power). It works pretty well for now since DG hasn't put out theirs yet.
Question - do you ever use yours with any external pedals or other processing?

Sounds fantastic.
Getting regular software updates is great until the updates stop and it reaches end of life. So much of the functionality is locked away in the app, when they cease support it looses most of it's appeal.
Personally much prefer my multifx in pedal format with a screen and controls so that they have a little more longevity.

Hi Jonny! Best demo I've seen of this head so far!
I've been tempted by these since they came out.
I currently have a darkglass microtubes 900 (as you know cuz you've played through it 😅), and a pedalboard of mostly gain and a bit of delay and reverb.
Obviously selling everything and getting one of these would be a lot more convenient, but do you reckon it would be a downgrade in terms of the quality of the sound?
Also, do you know if you can split the signal and run effects in parallel?
And most importantly, has it got a 🐀 in it? 😅
Thanks for continuing to make excellent bass content.

Johnny, two questions : how would this 500w hold up in a live gig I used my svt 4 pro with plenty of power, and how are you supposed to change effects on the fly in a live setting, do you have to stop playing and either walk up to the amp and change effects or open your phone and do it through there?

Only one problem with this amp. Its not 800 watts. What gives? Are they putting us on a diet. Bass is fat, get used to it.
Insight. I owned this when they first came out and took it to several gigs until I woke up. Its just not loud enough. And here's the rub. In the manual it mentions using the presets with the dark glass midi pedal. The Dark Glass Midi pedal. Again several, actually, half a dozen correspondences with Dark Glass service and the responses varied from. "We are working on it, right now we are having trouble with the supply chain." And that was understandable considering the War-demic. Half a year later I wrote and the response was, " Try any midi foot controller the amp is not proprietary." oh, but it is. But it is. Another Correspondence went unresponsive and I digress.
Take Away:
1. Walk away it's not worthy
2. The selling point is you can change the presets with bluetooth using the app. Cringe.
3. All this talk about pedals. This amp is a cactus, not a rose. No pedals, just presets which require a phone. How the heck is that practical on the fly.
4. Its been about 2 years, NO MIDI PEDAL as mentioned in the manual. ( and No, the Dark Glass Midi pedal for its other powerful bass heads will NOT talk to each other.)
5. They can't all be winners. Darkglass has knock about everything they swing at out of the park. This one is embarrassing and takes this 5 star company and gives it back to us at 4 or 4 1/2 star company.
6. At home in your studio on the desk. Yeah, why not. Just do not take it to a gig. Rather stop at guitar center if you're in a pinch and buy any other bass head for the gig and return it the next day. You'll be happy when your gig goes well and your e500 is sitting pretty on your desk unmolested.
