-It's Zero C02
-The waste is easy to store (doesn't enter the atmosphere or oceans)
-It's actually a great deal safer than fossil fuels
-4th generation reactors will be even safer still
-Well suited for desalination of sea water
-Reactors produce medical isotopes for treating the worst cancers
-They can directly replace coal fire power plants as they deliver the same base-load energy
I could go on.... and on..... and on.... Nuclear energy will power humanity into the future without destroying nature.
Imagine when power is cheap enough and abundant enough that you can fill a sky scraper with hydroponic grow rooms and feed a city without having to turn acre upon acre of land into monocultures of grains etc.
Imagine desalinating enough sea water to fill reservoirs in the deserts and restore productivity in the most lifeless environments... Simultaneously taking the carbonic acid from that very sea water and processing it into hydrocarbon fuels, enabling a carbon neutral aviation industry.
Imagine if energy was so cheap and abundant that it became more profitable to recycle plastics than to produce new plastics. It's conceivable that one day it would be profitable to go back and recycle the contents of landfills.
To quote Kirk Sorrensen, every time we gain access to a new form of energy there are profound societal implications. We abolished slavery after we learned to make carbon our slave. The energy of the nucleus is a million fold that of a carbon bond.
Sorry for rambling, I just quite like the idea of something that will benefit everyone for ever without destroying our home.

I am absolutely pumped that Lil Dicky is picking up this cause, and heartbroken that 4:48 of the Earth video puts nuclear power next to the fossil fuels. Why? Nuclear power has saved almost 2 million lives from displacing coal plants (which actually kill people with air pollution.). Not only that but nuclear requires about 15-20 times less mining than other low carbon tech, and takes up a lot less land (aka habitat). Including nuclear power in the clean energy mix gives us our best chance on climate, and that's why the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has it in all of their scenarios, ranging from a two times to a six times increase by 2050. Nuclear has its problems-- one being it's hard AF to build it on time at the moment, another being that nuclear waste scares people. But several countries have figure out how to deal with all of those issues (China, Korea, Russia, Finland), and I think we will, too. We need to.
