Loved the part about diminished chords, which I use all the time. :) Why, for one song, I used the chords Bb-Db-E, Db-E-G, E-G-Bb, G-Bb-Db (right up the scale). Oh, yeah, D-F-Ab too.

This is honestly so true. I write almost all my songs in that familiar 1-2-4-5-6 set of chords without even trying to.
Every so often, I will find a classical song that has some unusual chord thrown in and realize how diminished music really is.
