i think the lyric ācarried you all the way upstairs so you can sleep and i can thinkā always hits me so hard. the way i interpret it is that carrying someone all the way upstairs is representative of putting in all of your effort to make another person feel comfortable, so that they can be at ease, that they can sleep. the words āall the wayā really highlights the fact that you try to feed the other person a lie to make them be as far away from the situation as possible. afterwards you are able to be left with your thoughts, not having them make any further comments or moves for you to overanalyze, so you donāt get more stressed out. but still, at the end of the night, you are the one left alone to determine what happens in the relationship, and itās really fucking exhausting.
