As an employer, I just want to say cheers to any new managers that are here watching this on their own volition. Make leadership, management, and communication your craft. The more you understand your responsibilities, the less burdensome they will be. You're already 1 step ahead simply by being here and learning how your role works. Many new managers aren't doing this and will fail but not you. Good for you!!

My boss is a great example of being able to trust. She will let people vent, visit with them, even end up friends with them. But she also makes the hard decisions and makes sure we all understand that she still has to be a boss.

I just got promoted and my first week was hectic. My team was giving a hard time. Mostly not wanting to listen and did not see me as a leader. Once I had a meeting with them and listened to each of their problems, they all changed. I just hope I get better as time goes on. ty for this video.

As a manager or team lead, your team should come first and you should remember your responsibility for their well being as well as helping them meet business goals. It's very easy to simply become an executor of your bosses wishes and to let business goals be the only thing you're concerned with - this makes for a very poor manager and I've seen it time and again. Management often seems to forget that the people they're responsible for are people and this is one of the many things that ruins a job for someone. Take your teams opinions and needs into account in all your decisions because at the end of the day, they're what gives the company any worth.

1. know your bosses expectations of you 2. Don't rely on facts and data and figures alone 3. Avoid actionism 4. Don't speak badly about your predecessor 5. Don't aim to be popular

Just remember, even if you adopt a sincere Mentoring, Inspirational type leadership style, and begin to feel you have them inspired and motivated and happy, they are going to find things to criticize you for and will still talk about you behind your back. Its how people are and it comes with the territory.

I was tossed into management positions at the age of 17, without any prior understandings, and now I wish I had seen this before! I just started working for a small company and I was promoted to manager a week ago, but for the first time I felt afraid. After watching your video, and a few more, I feel ready and able to step into this position and continue to build myself and others. Thank you for your videos!

I must really admit I had experienced all this in the past. Being young and angry is a bad thing. I really have learned a lot !

I got a job this week as a supermarket duty manager and I have never been a manger for any organisation. Whilst i have worked in a supermarket for ten years in the past, I never become a manager as i was quite happy in my role. I then left and worked for the aviation industry for ten years and now i'm back in the supermarket game. I must admit, i'm absolutely pooping myself to put it in a nice way but I will put in my best efforts and this video is gold for me. Thanks for posting it.

I have been appointed as Fresh Produce Manager role in a large supermarket. I have been 2ic for many years. But have only recently wanted to step up. I have found that if you make friends with everyone, it doesn't work out so well. You need to speak up when needed. Even if it's not popular. Be professional. Great information in video. Thank you !!

I’m starting as a Customer Service Supervisor soon and will be overseeing the front of house operations in a department store. Can’t wait to start my new role, and this definitely helped since I have no management experience. Thanks so much! 🎉

Let me start by saying I am an ARAB MUSLIM and A WOMAN in usa. I had to mention these facts. I just got this management position. CONGRATS to me. However, the team cannot comprehend what's on TV is not what's inside the retail shop. They think I am a shapeshifter or something. I am a strong woman; I won't let myself be rolled over. I am the boss.
