The most under-rated American Rock band, along with Spirit. These guys were GREAT musicians at their creative, original peak. I never get tired of Quicksilver, and it's been almost 50 years since I first heard Pride Of Man. It got my permanent attention! Psychedelic Rock does not get better than this, imho.

Outstanding album. To me (34, Italian) it's nice reading all these comments talking about those times, the halcyon days, when everything (for you Americans and for the greatest part of the Westerners) was thought to be possible, within reach. You render those sentiments vividly. I can merely imagine what all of you felt in those times of untold hope and unconscious optimism, and, admittedly, a little bit of healthy nativity. Compare to what we, (pretty) young today, feel reality and see the world around us and the times ahead: disillusionment, crude awareness and catastrophe just around the corner. I like very much reading all these stories, very much! thanks

This is one of the most stupendous LPs out of the 60's SF band scene. John Cipollina is one of the most masterful guitarists of our lifetime. I have loved it ever since I purchased it in 1968, when I was in middle school Now, 53 years later, it is still masterful. I am especially partial to Gold & Silver and The Fool. Both inspired instrumentals. The whole LP is a treasure!

After the summer of 67 everything changed for a lot of us. I kept hearing about this S.F. band that was better than the Dead or Jefferson Airplane but hadn't cut an album. They said that nobody could record their sound. Finally it came and Quicksilver Messenger Service has been my alltime favorite band since. My girlfriend took me to see them on my twentieth birtday at the Music Hall in KC in 68. WOWW!There may have been some LSD around, I can't remember but I can still feel the magic of that night and the love that I think we all felt. Agape, I'd call it.

I was about to enter kindergarten in summer of '68 when I heard a few of these tracks on the radio....could never understand and remember the name of the band because of my age and the DJs said it so fast. I discovered this album in the late '90s out of curiosity from a book of Rick Griffin poster art....it brought back a flood of memories of my favorite era of pop culture when I struggled to make sense of 'cause of my age. It also brought back memories of other albums released about the same time like "Children of the Future" and "Days of Future Passed." About 10 years ago I discovered a sealed copy of this with the silver lettering. I asked the owner of the record shop how he came upon this and he said a record exec came in to get rid of his collection. I bought it for 35 dollars. I still haven't opened it...…think I'll keep it that way just to look at!

Its pretty amazing what happens when you are "coming of age"(16, 17, or 18 years old) and you are at one of these shows and its 1968'ish and you just happened to take some very good LSD. I will tell you that moment, that night, that experience will be burned into the hard drive of your mind, your essence for the rest of your life. You will forget many things, but you will remember this.

I remember it like it was yesterday, these things that happen to us when we're kids. I hitchhiked into The City from Hayward, summer 1968, with my best friend. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about. We made our way to the Fillmore that first night, my very first live show EVER. Bought a tab of acid from a guy outside the door, paid our 2 bucks and wandered in. We just saw the tail end of a set by a bunch of really talented black musicians. The music was way different then anything I ever heard before. I looked at the little handout which was a reproduction of the bigger poster. It said,' Sly and the Family Stone'. I'd never heard of them but before too long the whole country would hear about them. They were touring the Dance to the Music album. Then the headliners, Quicksilver Messenger Service. OMG! For a first concert I could not have asked for better than what I got that night. My ears rang for hours and hours after that night. I was standing right up front of John Cipollina's amp. What a sound. I could see the waves coming out of the amp like strobes of light. I will NEVER forget that night. I was 15 years old. What a night, what an experience. I bought this album the next day..... lol
