for those who are curious this song was originally the campaign "fight song" for the 1949 progressive party candidate for mayor of Boston WALTER O'Brien the Kingston trio got hold of the song ten years later changed the name to George O'BRIEN and had a1959hit record with this! just thought I'd tell you.

Although the Scollay Square station in the song is long gone, replaced by urban renewal, just before the green line enters Government Center if the trolley slows enough you can still see the old mosaic tile sign embedded on the wall for Scollay Square.
