With her first record deal at 14 and her first album at 21, the musical chemistry between Ashanti and Irv Gotti changed the sound of R&B and cemented Murder Inc in music history. But the public response surrounding Irv’s episode of Drink Champs and The Murder Inc Documentary on BET has brought that relationship back into the public eye.

On In Real Life with Angie Martinez, Ashanti responds with grace, detailing her version of the stories shared, revealing the lessons learned, and the impact it all had on her career.

I'm so happy Ashanti decided to an interview with Angie Martinez instead of those other outlets that won't let her talk.

" I operate in a different vibration, I don't play in the mud." From one Libra to another, I felt that. 💯

Ashanti was emotionally abused by Irv for years. He told her she was nothing because he is nothing without her. He is so insecure! I'm so happy that she left that toxic situation.

She hit it on the nail. Dude feels like he is entitled to EVERYTHING Ashanti & once a controller loses control.. the bitterness turns into pure hate.

"Pillow talk is a dangerous game..." I know she said she doesn't play in the mud, but she gave Irv a warning shot. He better leave that women alone.😂

Ashanti is a hustler and has remained booked and busy for two decades. I admire her energy and spirit.

Ashanti is suuuuper classy. SUPER. And you can tell that she did not expose even a MILLIONTH of what she could have. So composed, but I’m glad she did decompress. I’ve always liked her and now as a woman…..I bow to this Queen. So glad she didn’t change… she evolved.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

This is the most I've heard Ashanti speak on her personal life. I've always thought that was dope. She took numerous punches to her character before she spoke up. I believe her when she says she knows enough to bury Irv. Love her! She's a class act! She said I speak when I'm good and ready.

Angie is such an amazing interviewer. I love how laid back she is, and she is not pushy. She chooses her words carefully, and I am sure her cool and calm demeanor makes the artists feel more comfortable when discussing very personal matters. This was truly her calling. Ashanti also did a great job expressing herself in a very real but respectful manner.

What I heard was she gave up music because of Irv and came back when she was stronger and in a better mental space. So powerful I love how she presents herself and explains her side.
