India does not have this concept of 'dual nationality'. So he cannot be a citizen of India and NZ at the same time. That itself is a biggest violation of Indian passport laws.

I've been a foreign resident of Japan for 15 years, lived in Korea and China and hold an OCI. The rules are the same anywhere; you are also not allowed to partake in protests in the host country as a foreign national. These rules are not India specific, they are everywhere. If India did not disclose reason for blacklisting him they are not obliged to say, the same way as Japan immigration will never tell me the reason if they reject a PR application. This guy is lucky he is white and used that to drum up publicity for his cause. They would have lifted it eventually, he had to be patient and wait and stop painting himself as a victim. White men in Asia are too entitled.

I feel bad for separation from his wife and family, but in the US, If you misrepresent or overstay your visa, the same thing would happen. Same for Euro countries. Of course there are ways to appeal without being ignored, but this is India and it’s their right. I’m sure there’s more to the story, but break the rules and this is what happens.

They banned him for legitimate reasons as India has a right to make and execute immigration rules. Indians abroad have to abide by very strict rules of conduct and it seems foreigners have the privilege of never having to think twice about it. That being said, I don't know how clearly the rules were explained to him that he would have known not to do these things.

Most of people are confused why was he banned . I think that the reasons for him banned form india is that
1 - He visited few area of kashmir which was restricted for any foreign visitors.
2 - you can take part in any protest in india only if you are a citizen of india but he ignored it and took part in CAA protest. You can find him being part of protest and he also once was shown with his report of protest in the news channel .
I think the second reason was the exact reason for him getting banned but I think government didn't did right thing it should inform him about the reason of getting banned

Technically he can’t be a citizen of India, NZ, and the Netherlands. From my understanding, India doesn’t allow dual citizenship.
