Tourists love Sydney because itβs so iconic and stunning to see.
Living in Australia is a different story.
Only the extremely privileged few with centuries of intergenerational wealth get to actually live in the areas that tourists think of as βSydneyβ.
For the vast majority, Sydney is a generic bunch of quite sterile suburbs in the west, away from the water.
Although Melbourne is also very expensive, it tends to celebrate its grungyness, and second-place-ness. It can not compete with Sydney in terms of iconic beauty so it has developed an identity based upon art, food, and culture. There are more pockets of alternative awesomeness that are a bit more accessible to the majority, in Melbourne.

This video made me want to visit the down under even more. Going to Australia is on my bucket list because of wildlife and hiking trails. I also really want to try surfing! Now I'm even more excited for the U.S. stretch of the tour. π Girli is so raw in this, and I agree that no matter where you are, your problems will follow.
