The scariest thing about seeing somebody commit suicide by jumping down the hole? They were on a higher level than you and still decided they'd rather die.

He only needed to stay there for 6 months, not 1 year.

There’s 333 floors...each floor presumably holds 2 people... The facility can hold 666 people...strange coincidence for the people to call the pit a hell hole...

Sometimes I wonder how stable the minds of people who come up with horror movies are. This shit is unhinged

I dont think the little girl was imaginary. Goreng believed all along that Miharu's child was a boy, therefore it makes no sense that he would imagine a girl to appear.

They also ask everyone what their favorite food is. The chef's makes everyone's favorite dish so if everyone ate their favorite dish there would be enough food for everyone

My Boyfriend, who recommended this movie to me, also noticed the entire randomness in which level you wake up and it mirroring the absolute luck of birth for us. It's not ouch choice into which world/ social layer we are born into.

Having been homeless, jobless, hopeless, & essentially "at the bottom" i can tell you from personal experience that this movie accurately depicts common human nature. Homeless/Poor people can be very very ruthless, uncaring, selfish, inconsiderate, thieving, dangerous, etc. It's not just about rich or poor. I have met good & very bad people on BOTH ends of the money/social Spectrum.

“The message” is plainly explained by the wise man as not being for the administration but for the workers at level 0. They initially want to send a dish back up but realize that sending a starving child for those workers to see is a far stronger message. The hope being that the workers will quit, perhaps word will even get out of what’s happening inside, and the whole thing will stop. Throughout the movie the workers up top presumably see the food gone on the platform when it returns but have no idea how many are starving or who is down below. Maybe they’re told it’s criminals, maybe they don’t know people are dying. As the wise man says the administration has no conscience but the workers on level 0 may. So seeing a starving child come back up could indeed start this revolution they’re seeking to end the platform.

By "explained" he means "summarized for people who can't stomach horror films"

People fail to realize that he survived out of sheer wisdom and inner peace. That book he had was a book about enjoying misfortune and suffering. How even in dark times you can still see the light.

I also absolutely love the wordplay in this scene, Trimagasi tells Goreng that he[2:58] shouldn't talk to the people down below cuz they're below. And that he mustn't talk to the people above because they wouldn't listen.

You missed how Molly also told him there were only 200 levels. (I believe that’s why she killed herself when they ended up on 202). She didn’t know she was lied to...

You know this movie comes into play when the Corona virus happened and people selfishly bought out toilet paper even though it wasn't really needed, while the people that needed it wasn't able to get it.

First line in the movie: "There are three different kinds of people: those on top, those on bottom, and those that fall." I liked how the whole movie centered around getting to the one that rises. It's almost symbolic that it was a child, sometimes it seems like that's how it is in life with passing generations.
