All I'm saying, is... yes yes, they make you more emotionally invested... but the later AC game soundtracks have nothing on this.
It's like Classic mechwarrior 2 versus Mercenaries soundtrack-wise:
one makes you feel like some kind of angel, elegantly dancing in the sky while raining down death on thy enemies.
The other makes you feel as arrogant and cool as fighter pilots stereotypically are.
TBH I like this version of AC better, not trying to be Neon-genesis gundam, all emotional and shit even though you just saved the world from the earth equivalent of the deathstar.
I mean yes, I love Ace Combat 4 and 6, but the soundtrack isn't as expressive as this, gameplay and graphics are solid, as always, but Ace Combat 2, even with its dated graphics and PS1 short render distance, each soundtrack makes you feel as tough (or weary) as it needs to without a single orchestral instrument.
I mean I love the later soundtracks too, but.... I dunno, it just feels like Ace Combat 3 is where they said "Alright, no more rockin' out. You'll never be upbeat again after this. And 4? HOHOOOOH prepare to cry your eyes out at how sad we're gonna make things there."
Assault Horizon tried to cool it up, but apparently everyone hated that game.
This is just the Ace Combat track to me.
Come to think of it though, doesn't every ace combat game have you pull a "Deathstar Trench run" Type assault on a superweapon now? I'll bet 7 does!
I dunno, I mean maybe it's because this legit the first game I ever played on the PS1 courtesy of Dad. MAN I just love it so much.

That time when you still don't care if an Su-35 and YF-22 can launch from a carrier. Good times.
