Here is part two of Michael Higgins 40 minute epic. The Harrowing of Hell. In order to make a visual representation I have split the whole into segments to make it easier to produce and upload. Once done I will try fitting them all together to make the full film. This fantastic music was written by Michael Higgins as part of a much larger cycle called "In Search of the Missing Orrery". For me, Mike's music has the same rich textures and spiritual depth as someone like Avo Part, whilst also incorporating fascinating mathematical puzzles like the Fibinacci number sequence into his scores. The Harrowing is one of my favourites as it encapsulates so many of Mike's vivid compositional ideas whilst taking the listener on a distinct and coherent narrative journey - a journey I really hope to capture with some visuals with my limited production tools ( i.e. the film capabilities of a standard photo camera and windows video editor! ) The Harrowing tells of Jesus' journey to Hell immediately after crucifixion to redeem the souls therein before returning on Easter Sunday as the Resurrection. This segment shows the suffering beings in Hell, the demon on guard seeing Jesus approaching and finally Jesus knocking on the Gates on Hell to demand the release of the souls.
