Both versions of Bumi explore different themes. (I personally prefer the animated Bumi way more. I think the themes explored fit better in the overall story)
Animated Bumi was more about wisdom, friendship, and the resilience of the earthbending people not letting war break down their hope. Also about duty and mental strength.
Netflix Bumi was more about how hardship and pain can corrupt a person. How war and survival can make you lose sight of what's important.

People be complaining about how Bumi isnt like the animation when Im just appreciating how well they managed to portray him. He looks and sounds if not exactly the same then super close to the animation Bumi. Cudos to the actor. Even if this live action lacks some things that the animation had, the special effects and the makeup and costume team deserves a raise.

I can't say I like the changes to Bumi becoming a bitter angry old man that hated his friend because "He wasn't there"
People are saying "This is realistic, because Bumi lived through this war!" But I don't think Bumi would ever of blamed his friend like that. He understood that one person, even the Avatar couldn't control the world. He knew the war was outside of the Avatar's control.
He knew Aang was just a child, who wasn't even fully trained. After 100 years, I would think he'd of come to terms with the fact that the War wasn't Aang's fault, and that Aang is not to blame for it even if he had blamed Aang for it.
But again, I don't see King Bumi ever doing that. He was a very wise character even if he acted the false Buffoon. Realism does not mean being an Arsehole.

Bumi is still wild, funny, and unpredictable. A little more hostile at times but ultimately loved Aang and wanted to show him the adversity he would face. He lost a little bit of faith but quickly regained it once Aang proved him wrong. Ended Aangs visit by sledding down the shoot for old times sake. Still good and pretty close to original for the most part.

IDK why but I love that Earth Bending move at 2:22 , also Bumi regardless of cartoon or live action can still kick @ss and enjoyed both versions of him

idk about yall, but for me this version of Bumi just showing what the characters in the series really represent after the 100 years war. Like we all know the original watchers of this series are all adults now, i rlly think that the directors using more straightforward approach to the live series so that we really could get a bit grip of what the war does to the people.

In the cartoon Bumi's response to the traumas of war turned him into a critical thinker capable of thinking outside of the box. He was a mad genius. The live actioned turned him into a bitter old man at an arrested development with abandonment issues.
