We had a divorced neighbor lady who rented out the 3 extra bedrooms in her home and she did it for years. She went through the local community college where foreign students (potential renters) were vetted. She had students from Japan, China, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia over the years and it worked out great for her. They paid her for room and board (she provided and prepared their meals) and they had their own rooms but were welcome throughout her house. If they had guests they were either visiting family members(who could stay for a couple nights) or other students who never stayed over night. She really enjoyed those kids, they were funny and respectful. I don't remember her ever mentioning problems because they were either in classes or in their room studying, some had part time jobs. On occasion, on a weekend night a group of their friends from college would stay till late listening to music, playing video games or watching movies in the rec room, but never expected to sleep over. She was payed in advance for a predetermined amount of time through the organizing agency at the college. That said, she'd never have welcomed a random person off craigslist or the internet, so there was a level of security.

Rental laws for individual rooms in a private home should be on the side of the homeowner….if the homeowner is not comfortable it’s only reasonable the tenant leave, they have no right to continue victimising the landlord in their own private space, especially when no rent is being paid.

WHAT on EARTH took them so long to go to their Mum's house??!! If the son, son in law and all her family knew this tenant was suspicious, they didn't have the time to go to her home and check this guy out??? Take care of your people, people!

Marc bringing his mother to the viewing was a red flag. This was a way of getting false trust because his mother was with him.

It's obvious what happened - the two men were high on drugs and already hated the landlord because they had to pay rent and abide by rules. That poor woman, RIP.

In America they would both have got life sentences. The fact that Mark's accomplice David only got 4 years is a disgrace.

So, the killer will be out in 10 years and the one out in 2. For a woman's life. I really think the UK needs to get serious about crime.

I can't understand why Antonietta's children hadn't helped her so she wouldn't have to take a lodger or, at the very least, to do reference checks on the lodger. What a strange arrangement.

That lady should have been better advised by those close to her before allowing just anyone to move in to her home. Very sad and could have been prevented.

When you have elderly parents,,don’t expect them to reach out to you! Your an adult now check in with them daily.remember they don’t want to be a burden and probably won’t ask for help if needed,,if they’re always the one to make contact

The acting was very amateurish, especially the false Italian accent of the mum. Awful what happened to that poor lady. I’d sooner have no money than have strangers in my house. You never know who they really are.

Here's a mom struggling, but used to taking care of herself. I'm sure her kids would have taken her into their hones. But independence is so important as one grows older. My mother lived by herself until she passed at 85.
