Gakpo didn't slow down and look at Taylor, he stopped specifically because Taylor blew his whistle while Gakpo was running for the ball, which was an unlawful stoppage of the game. Taylor screwed up, and he tried covering it up by feigning an injury to Areola, that man is not fit to referee professional football. This error is genuinely close to the level of the ruled out Diaz goal v Spurs.

The ref dug himself out? HE BROKE THE LAWS OF THE GAME

"The referee has done well to dig himself out" He has just admitted to thinking it's acceptable for a ref to break rules 🤣

Yet another scandal from the PGMOL with these ex refs trying to justify their absolute incompetence.

Gakpo stopped because Taylor blew his whistle. He is not to blame here.

Why are they blaming Gakpo? Taylor blew his whistle so he stopped.

Gakpo stopped because the ref blew his whistle! Precisely to stop Gakpo from scoring. Why do these 'experts' not do a thorough review of the incident? Same question was asked on MOTD by their 'experts'. We all heard the whistle. And the point here is that to blow the whistle while the game is in play, for no reason whatsoever, is unlawful. Every action taken by the ref thereafter was a cover up for his ineptitude that had real result consequences. Why oh why is nobody in the football media outraged by this? Areola didn't even go down until told to do so.

This is the 4th time Liverpool have lost points due to an undeniable error from the referee, all 3 prior cases came against title rivals. Liverpool can definitely look at themselves for losing out in the title race, but it is absolutely undeniable that the referees poor decisions have cost them a chance at the trophy as well. They would still be firmly in the race if the ref's weren't incompetent, despite their awful form in recent games.

What is the point of this section on Sky? Gallagher just backs the refs no matter what. Why did Taylor blow his whistle? "because he wanted the keeper to receive treatment". Utter shite! If that was so he should've done that in the first instance. And exactly what did he say to the keeper? The audio would be very interesting. This ref and others are dreadful and should be called out for these glaring mistakes!

I love the bit “the ref decided the goalkeeper needed treatment” from the halfway line (after waving play on mind you )when not even the goalkeeper knew that.

Anthony Taylor in yet another refereeing scandal involving Liverpool, it’d be laughable if it wasn’t such blatant corruption…

And the thing is if you watch the replay you can see Anthony Taylor telling areola to pretend that he's injured so that can reflect on his mistake.

"Give the original whistle"? Whistle for what? There was no foul, no injury as he didn't collide with the post and he played on!

@redmed10

Why not show the actual incident. He never banged into the post. He threw the ball down and started adjusting his socks. Not the actions of a injured player.

Every single week some bs relating the refs or VAR. And yet Prime Minister of Football Gary Neville says we shouldn't criticise them.

Anthony Taylor didn't "dig himself out". He dug Areola out as it was the goalkeeper's mistake. Also Gakpo stops after the whistle. Strange analysis.
