Welcome back to Fret Not! What a special episode I have for you today, the Brian May interview(!) which took place at the end of this summer (2023). We talked about AI and its potentially dangerous applications, Brian's childhood and how he found his way to the guitar, being famous as a shy person and how that fame has changed with the internet and social media, we talk about Brian's role in the scientific community, his experiences with imposter syndrome, parenting and a load more!
I couldn't not leave in playing a small part of Barrios' confesion for Bri, and his playing Love of my Life for me, I'm sure there will be at least some copyright issues, but it was such an incredible moment, just sat there on his carpet listening to the man himself playing a song I grew up listening to on the radio!

This is possibly the best interview featuring a famous artist I ever saw. Brian is such a unique, humble and intelligent human being. And then they pull his guitar out, this legendary piece of knitting needle and fireplace that played on the most famous records and concerts, and they do not even mention it. I could cry.... The questions by Rosie are so good.

One of the most British conversations I've heard in years. Sympathetic hhmms aand aaahss, soft spoken, polite, well worded and very low intensity. Love it!

Sir Brian is the definition of national treasure. He is an incredible human and I’m so glad to have grown up in a world with him in it. Awesome interview 👏

Without a doubt, this has to be one of the best interview chats he's ever done! It's refreshingly warm, deep, natural and casual. It's beautiful to see his comfortable, laid back openness (among many other things)!

I cannot believe how down to earth Brian is, we all see how 'fame' can change people, this shows the character of a fine and humble human being. Great stuff!

What a Gentleman. The thing about Brian May is that he doesn't know he is BRIAN MAY.

One of the best interviews (if not THE best) with Brian that I've seen. Terrific work! You let him speak, but engaged intelligently and thoughtfully when he invited you to do so. I hope to see you do many more.

This video has moved me like no other. I've not heard of Rosie prior to watching this- she is very intelligent, thoughtful and communicative as an interviewer which lead to the most insightful, honest and wholly relaxed interview I've seen with Brian. He is a Gentleman of the old school with a high emphasis on compassion and respect to all (excepting trolls which I back him 100%) and Rosie seems to be cast in the same mould- which totally delights me. Rosie your interview was a delight; as was your guitar playing. My deepest thanks and appreciation to you both.

I’m a huge fan of Queen, I have seen tons of interviews of these four guys, but never seen Brian come out so naturally, you have done the best interview ever. ❤

Rosie, I’ve seen DOZENS of Brian interviews, not one did Brian feel as open as he did in that interview. Cheers!

Brian May keeps reminding us to stay humble, be grateful and just enjoy life. Such a big inspiration not just as a musician but also as a person. Thank you! ♥

What a great interview seeing Brian in different light at home in his kitchen. Never knew his father was a Concorde engineer as my grandfather was also an engineer on Concorde

Humans having a conversation, listening to each other and being curious. It’s strangely beautiful. Has it become rare?

I am a fairly capable player myself, but if Mr. May were to even look at me—much less take out his phone to record me—I don’t think I could even tune without passing out. Well done! The two of you sharing songs like that was very moving. Thank you.

I am at a loss for words... thank goodness so many comments here have said how I feel because I can't manage it, I found myself in tears at the end watching you both play, and of course because Bri played that song. I can never get through it these days without tears. Just lovely, all around.

I met Brian when our band supported him. He was so lovely, he came up to us, shook hands and introduced himself. He's great.

What an absolute joy to be invited to eavesdrop on your gorgeous conversation together. Loved every second of it. There were no imposters in that room. And Rosie, how you managed to hold it together to play your guitar so beautifully in such intimate proximity to Brian, while he filmed you on his phone, will forever be beyond me. Just brilliant. You got yourself a new follower today.
