On 14 May 1996, Orenthal James "OJ" Simpson visited Oxford University, where he was to give a talk in the prestigious insitution's debating chamber two years after the American football star was controversially acquitted of the murders of his former wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Upon arriving at the university, Simpson posed for the press alongside university representatives before giving a brief press conference outside. Students and domestic violence campaigners demonstrated outside, outraged at Oxford's decision to host Simpson. Asked if he was nervous about going before Oxford's student body, Simpson said he was, before quickly clarifying that he was nervous not about being questioned but appearing in front of a crowd.
OJ Simpson has died aged 76. His acquittal in the so-called trial of the century, the proceedings and conclusion of which are seen by many as a damning reflection of race relations in 1990s America, remains a deeply polarising issue in US society.

Simpson's visit was organised by Max Clifford. Those two could share notes.
