This is a local problem not a national problem. Schatz hasn't done anything in his many years about vacation rentals, which is determined by county. Schatz trying to blame federal government for utter failure of Maui local government. How is federal government suppose to dictate every law in every precinct in the entire country? Schatz is the problem but trying to deflect so he sounds like he standing up for locals. If he had a backbone, Schatz would have streamlined permitting process to be able build in the state. As of right now, it can take up to 2 years or more to get a permit do any kind of work. That does not include 6 months to a year to even get a set of architectural drawings. Once again, Schatz and his cronies in the state of Hawaii are the problem. If they get rid of all vacation rentals then Maui's economy will tank because Maui is more dependent on tourism than any of the other main islands. There is zero industry in Maui, now that the corporate farms have closed shop recently
