One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was "Permission to Fail, not to bail". It was in regard to writing comedy sketches, but I've found it's essential in many areas of my life. Once you have a plan to do something, see it through to execution -- even if it doesn't go as planned. If you bail before you even try, you'll never know whether it was good or not.

I like how you talked about how perfectionism isn't actually that helpful to us. My issue is that I've started to equate stress with success. If im not stressed I MUST be doing something wrong. I'm afraid that if im not constantly anxious it means I won't try as hard. And this belief is sort of confirmed every time I do well at something or in a class. My brain is like "see? Look at that perfect grade, if you hadn't been so stressed and anxious all the time this wouldn't have happened! You need to be stressed if you want to do well! You need to be a perfectionist if you want to succeed!" But being stressed really sucks. Just thanks for pointing out that there are other roads to success that don't involve stressed induced queasiness and emotional breakdowns and tears, lots and lots of tears. I think sometimes we just need to be reminded that there are alternatives

OMG! Please don't be "forced" to make all clips under a certain time. If something is short make it short. If the topic needs leg room, stretch it out. What you do is simply amazing. You give clear voice to subjects that I mean screams out but my mouth doesn't play along because there is something shiny in the corner, and that's more important. Also, in reference to "mean comments" maybe this may bring ease. For a lack of better terms, you stand on a soap and give your comments in the video. Not a conversation. Those who watch, somewhat do the same, but with text. We "stand" aka type "on" aka in our "soap box" comment box and give our comments. This too is not a conversation. Therefore, speak your wisdom and please continue to radiate the great work, but rather be harmed by those who type ill feelings toward you to make themselves feel better, only engage in conversation during special dedicated Q&A . This way everyone is told what the guidelines are and then everyone can have a productive conversation.

I was going to leave a witty comment saying, "I thought this was How to ADHD! Not How to OCD!" Then I realized how big of an issue perfectionism is in my life. I recognize that it's okay to not do a 100% job at anything, but that doesn't stop me from beating myself over a failure. What I think is worst is when you do something right on the mark, and then do the same thing again missing the bulls-eye by a hair, you know you have done better and you think that you failed completely and beat yourself up over it, even though you are still going above and beyond the requirements for success.

I am so thankful I came across your channel.
I am an ADHDer without Healthcare or medication for the last year.
Being on medicine vs off is the difference between living and existing.
I know some prefer to live without medication but for others... without it... we just don't fit into society at all.
Work, relationships, credit score... just keeping a roof over your head becomes a challenge!
Can you make a video on this topic to help other ADHDers who are lucky enough to be medicated become aware of the struggles of those without? Because as great as all your videos are... most of them don't apply to my current state of mind.
Thank you.
Much love!

My perfectionism is a blessing and a curse during work. I work in a kitchen, and I have to clean up. My hyperfocusing side kicks in because I've done it for so many times that I instantly know what to do. My perfectionism works with it to make me do a good job cleaning things thoroughly.
the curse is that whenever i have to train someone... they never have the same level of perfection that I do. And then it becomes hell having to look at all the things they missed and i have to go back an clean it myself because "it isn't clean enough" or whatever.
I also get a lot of "but that's already clean" and then I'm like "....NOT CLEAN ENOUGH--" and go off lmao

Thanks for making this channel. I found it about a week ago and I'm finding every video helpful. I have Asperger's and ADHD so I mostly give my doctors headaches. This channel has been very helpful especially since I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until a year ago. Everyone assumed it was just Asperger's causing my problems. Now I'm treated and medicated for both they seem to be working better with each other.
So thank you Jessica, you're amazing and all your hard work is appreciated. Edward nice work on the post production too.

I didnt know that perfectionism was common whit adhd people, but it makes sense, bc I do really struggle whit it =/ I just got my diagnosis this year and at first I was like "no way!!" but the more I look into it, the more "ahaa moments" I get haha, your channel is really helpful. Easy to understand and I feel a bit more included =)
