In Monaco one doesn't have to spend a fortune to visit it. Two attractions are the Musée océanographique and the place in front of the Palais princier to enjoy the view on Monte-Carlo. And this guy completely omitted to mention Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a very picturesque village not far from Nice. A visit to the perfume factories in and around Grasse is also interesting.

I've been several times and soon to return. I'm 70, so a bit different viewpoint. Cannes is fun when the Film Festival is underway, but I would never base there. During the Film Festival, it's possible to snag free tickets (just do some research to find out how, the info is out there). There's a ferry from Cannes out to the Lerins Islands. Marguerite is a natural park and fun to just chill out away from crowds and picnic under pines. I felt Eze was a tourist trap, except for the garden. Villefranche is lovely, and had you walked toward Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, you would've walked past Villa NellCote where The Rolling Stones wrote Exile on Main Street. Also on SJCF, you would've been able to pay to tour the villa and gardens of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. It's quite lovely, with great views, so I suggest that garden over Eze. The villa was used for the rooftop scenes of Cary Grant in To Catch A Thief. I've based in Antibes several times, but the next trip, I'll base in Nice because friends are joining me. From Old Town Antibes, it's a 20-minute walk out to Cap d'Antibes where there is a lovely beachside cafe, La Rocher. After lunch, you can walk the coastal path around the Cap, then at the end, walk back along the quiet streets past the villas. Of course, from Nice, you can also walk the coastal path to Villefranche. Please brush up on your French as it will go a long way toward more enjoyment of your time in that country.
