About the complaints of Catherine coming across as a cartoon villain, the whole point is that she was faking giving a shit about her niece and Ashley knew it, but she played along until she could gather enough evidence to use against her. It's apparent WITHOUT the writers beating us over the head with it that they had a very surface familial relationship. It's just 2 people tolerating each other because they are family. There's no need for subtlety when the 2 people involved basically hate each other. It was 20+ years of pent-up anger coming to a boil because Catherine feels like Ashley's owes her everything since she gave up any kind of life to raise her.

I think Catherine represents Britney’s father and Ashley represents Britney in 2006 oh and for anyone who didn’t know she says “the contract ends when I’m 25” when this all began around the end of 2006/2007 just when she started recording for her album blackout (basically what she could do with original doll because her label wouldn’t let her put out any material from the original concept) just so Everyone knows britney turned 25 in December of 2006 this is all very eerie now, please pray for Britney she needs it now more than ever
