This could be one of the luckiest runs of any game that anyone has ever had. I'm done with this category, maybe forever.

For anyone wondering - the knockdown and damage taken on Mr. Sandman are both intentional. By getting knocked down at 1:59 or later, Mr. Sandman will do his "Dreamland Express" pattern upon you getting up, which lets you hit him for massive damage. The fight is ~10 in-game seconds faster than it would be otherwise.

I used to hate how the referee would stop counting when your opponent was trying to get up but continue counting when you're trying to get up.

When Mario isn’t saving a princess or racing go karts, he’s heavily favoring your opponent with those weak counts 😂

For those interested, Punch-Out is recognised as one of the first ever games to have facial animation. The huge sprites (for the time) are also something of an achievement.

It was February 1988, I was in 8th grade, and I didn't have a Nintendo but my friend down the street did. We spent hours playing this game. I finally beat Tyson, (also in the first round) and we got on the phone to tell all of our friends. By the time school started the next day, the whole middle school had heard about it. "Hey, there goes Todd, he beat Tyson last night!" I felt as proud as Kevin Arnold when he kissed Winnie Cooper for the first time! Lol! Funny how at 49, I can still remember that like it was yesterday, but I can't actually remember what I did yesterday.

Bunch of Dudes over 40 watching this with a big smile. Hearing the different sounds of the game again was so cool. I could have closed my eyes and known what was going on. I always became enraged playing this game, Lol. Never beat Tyson

That moment when you realize you are now older than all the boxers in Punch-Out.

I remember having the hardest time beating Mr. Sandman and when I finally did and getting lucky enough to beat Super Macho Man and finally getting to Tyson without using the code. His timing caught threw me off that he ended me in under a minute by his uppercut. This was the hardest and funnest game I remember playing as a kid. This game and Double Dragon I absolutely loved!

That first minute and thirty seconds against Tyson had to be THE most nerve racking I can recall from any game. I would get too jumpy, dodge and then get knocked the F out.

I can remember moving my body with the controller to dodge punches. The rush it would give me and the way my entire body tensed, and then the utter joy where I'd go running around the house celebrating.

I beat the game as a kid in front of my friends dad and a bunch of his buddies. They were all old school cholos who grew up boxing, but couldn't play this game at all. They were super impressed and so vocal with every win. It's a highlight of my childhood.

The sounds alone bring so much joy. I'm having flashbacks of skipping school to terminate Glass Joe over and over again.
