the first line where she says “i listen to lotta true crime” is really interesting to me. when you’re a girl you’re constantly listening to other women’s stories of men being creepy, whether it’s from your friends or your mom or if it’s from a true crime show, but she says it so nonchalantly bc even though some of those experiences may actually be illegal it almost never gets reported/the predator isn’t properly punished. that line ties in with “i like the girl talk/it makes me feel alright” bc it’s almost like the singer realizing that men being creepy/predatory happens to more women than you think
this may make no sense lol i’m writing this late at night but

tbh my favourite lyrics are: "one of our young turned up last night, they found their body but not their eyes. somebody new must have gone bad- where's the lord to take care of that" because the ENERGY is immaculate and "cause there was no fucking candle in his pumpkin head!" like queen... iconic

the modern romanticization of crime (specifically murder) is actually a really interesting phenomenon. it's not completely new, obviously, killers have always attracted followers, but the shift from "potential imitators" to "hybristophiliacs" did kind of start with ted bundy. there are a lot of contributing factors, a big one likely being the way our presentation of these killers has changed. making dramatizations of real-world American murders and casting actors like zac effron as the killers (as was the case with ted bundy), creating shows and adaptions where the killers are "sexy"... that sort of thing. when content portrays killers as alluring, it always runs the risk of distracting people from the horrible things they're doing. typically young girls who are attracted to the characters but don't have a lot of real-world associations with murder and don't grasp the gravity of it.
