Christiane Amanpour is in Ukraine, where -- days away from the second anniversary of the war -- there is a sense of urgency and of frustration. With American support drying up just as Ukraine needs it most, Russia has delivered a significant defeat and its flag is now flying over Avdiivka in the east. Still Ukraine battles on, with inadequate weaponry and its troops exhausted from two years of war. Amid this gloom, the death of preeminent Putin critic Alexey Navalny hit Europe, and Ukraine, like a bolt of lightning. President Joe Biden says Congress's "...failure to support Ukraine at this critical moment will never be forgotten." Christiane spoke with President Zelensky onstage at the Munich Security Conference.

What is little known in the West is that this guy ran on 'I am willing to kneel down before Putin and beg him to avoid full-scale military confrontation.' Thats what the people voted for.

President Zelensky is tireless in visiting and talking with partners and potential partners. He’s right, there is just one Ukraine, and it must be sovereign, but that 7 to 1 fighter ratio is daunting. The Republicans saying that the Southern U.S. border must be protected are ignoring the fact that Mexico, Venezuela, El Salvador etc. do not have nuclear weapons and are not trying to reconstruct a prior entity the way Putin is with the old USSR. If we don’t give Ukraine what it needs, we lose much of Eastern Europe - partners on a much bigger, global grid. The immigration issue must be dealt with separately from the existential threat Ukraine and its neighbors are facing.

1 to 7 IS significant. The US needs to get aid to them soon. They are fighting for both themselves and us. If they fall, NATO soon goes to war; it's just a matter of time. And then we'll be fighting for Europe and us. And if nuclear is a concern at this point, imagine the level of that concern rising dramatically then. Politics used to stop at the borders. That needs to become the standard again.

I am SO in love with Zelensky! His bravery and his passion in leading his nation during this horrible war with Russia is inspiring. My heart breaks a little when I think of the sacrifices he and his people are making for freedom.

Ukraine can win, and will win. Russia is attempting to do to them what they did to Afghanistan, and see how that turned out. Only question is how long the West will drag it out by not supplying enough aid, and if they will allow the Russians to roll over them into other countries once 🇺🇦 is reduced to fighting as an insurgency and can no longer hold the line 😔
